Tasting - Primo Amore

Name: Primo Amore
Variety: Mostcato
Region: Puglia
Country: Italy
Year:
Price: $8.95

Winery Review:  Straw-yellow with golden reflections and a delicate mousse. Fruity and very inviting, with intense scents
of peaches and exotic fruit. Fresh and pleasantly sweet with a taste that reveals its varietal characteristic
.
My review:  This was good Moscato but this was just not the taste I was craving today.  The color was pale yellow and had a minimal amount of carbonation.  The smell was mostly of pear but I knew it was going to be very sugary.  The taste was extremely sweet and easy to drink.  This wine tasted fine on its own and does not need food paired with it.  After this tasting I had some Swiss cheese which did complement this wine.

Tasting - Faraway Farm

Name: Faraway Farm
Variety: Shiraz
Region:
Country: South Africa
Year: 2008
Price: $5.95

Winery Review:  Fresh, modern style, with lots of plum pudding,
sweet chocolate, mocha, blackberry and boysenberry flavors supported by round, sweet tannins and toast.

My review:  This a good wine but did not taste like a regular shiraz.  The wine did not have the black color like most shiraz's look like.  It was a lighter red that I could see through.  The smell was full of smoke, dirt and earth smells.  The taste was rich and full of fruit.  It was a dry wine but it still had a very smooth texture.  I would like to try this wine again and compare it with other Shiraz wines from different parts of the world.

I tasted this on its own with no food.

Tasting - Tres Ojos Old Vines

Name: Tres Ojos Old Vines
Variety: Garnacha
Region:
Country: Spain
Year: 2009
Price: $6.95

Winery Review:  Bright ruby color. Primary dark berry aromas are simple but offer very good purity and focus. Juicy blackberry and bitter cherry flavors are youthfully tangy, with good back-end acidity adding snap. The clean, brisk finish leaves behind notes of sweet dark berry preserves and cracked pepper.
My review:  This wine was not my style.  This wine was not super red, it almost looked like a cross between a pinot noir and a rose.  The nose had a strong sense of leather and some rubber.  The wine was very dry and smokey in the taste.

I tasted this on its own with no food.

Tasting - Fox Hollow

Name: Fox Hollow
Variety: Chardonnay
Region: California
Country: United States
Year: 2009
Price: $5.95

Winery Review:  Fox Hollow Chardonnay has everything to satisfy a casual white wine lover - lovey aromas of white apple blossom, tropical fruit and honeydew melon lead into a soft, fresh, delightfully light wine on the palate with flavors of golden ripe apples kissed by lemon zest.

My review:  This wine was just OK.  When the wine was poured in to my glass it looked almost as clear as water.  The nose was not very strong but I detect apple lemon and butter.  The taste was just like liquid candy and had a sour finish.  The wine did not have any texture to it.

I tasted this on its own with no food.

Tasting - Obikwa

Name: Obikwa
Variety: Sauvignon Blanc
Region:
Country: South Africa
Year: 2010
Price: $7.95

Winery Review:  OBiKWA Sauvignon Blanc is the ideal summer wine and smacks of crisp tropical fruit with a smattering of gooseberries and fig. If you're planning a night out with mates - don't forget to bring along a bottle of this yummy potion

My review:  The wine was very good.  It had a pale yellow color and smelled very strongly of apple, citrus, apple juice, and rubber.  When I tasted this wine is was tart but very smooth.  The wine was just a little hot on the finish.

I tasted this on its own with no food.

Tasting - Peter Mertes Liebfraumilch

Name: Peter Mertes
Variety: Liebfraumilch
Region: Rheinhessen, Palatinate
Country: Germany
Year: 2009
Price: $5.95

Winery Review:  Leibfraumilch is a soft, delicate wine of the Rheinhessen and Palatinate districts. The original wine was named after the Leibfraumilch monastery in Worms, where the monks were the first wine growers and produced an unusually pleasing wine. Wines of the Rheinhessen and Palatinate are noted for their aroma, well balanced harmony, and fragrance. Leibfraumilch, as all excellent white wines is best served chilled. We suggest serving with cold entrees, as well as poultry, such as chicken or turkey, or even with a mild Cheddar, mellow and slightly nutty with a medium consistency.

My review:  This was a good wine.  A unique style of wine that I had not tried before.  The wine was almost colorless in the glass and did not have much of a nose.  The tast was excellent with a sugary candy taste.  It was super smooth and easy to drink.  It would be good for one or two glasses but is almost too rich to drink beyond that.  I agree with the winery and think that this swine would pair excellently with cheese.

Tasting - Col Des Vents Corbieres

Name: Col Des Vents
Variety: Corbieres
Region:
Country: France
Year: 2009
Price: $7.95

Winery Review:  50% Carignan, 35% Grenache, 15% Syrah.
Brambly berry, cherry and raspberry, spices, black pepper…all are present in this authentic French country wine.

My review:  Another very dark colored wine.  The nose of this wine was strong with cherry, apple, orange and other citrus smells.  The wine did not have a very flavorful taste but was full of texture.  The was was silky but tannic with a bite at the end.  The aftertaste was soft.

Tasting - San Elias Carmenere

Name: San Elias
Variety: Carmenere
Region: Central Valley
Country: Chile
Year: 2010
Price: $5.95

Winery Review: The grapes for this Carménère are selected from vineyards in the Central Valley. Beautiful red fruit aromas. Supple and round in the mouth, the wine pairs well with full flavored cheeses and lamb.

My review:  The color of the wine was very dark, almost black.  The wine smelled smokey and gamey.  The wine had a silky texture and did not have any tannic feel.  There were no fingers when the wine was swirled.  The lack of body for this wine was not appealing to me.  The wine also have a bitter aftertaste.

Tasting - Estrella Chardonnay

Name: Estrella
Variety: Chardonnay
Region: Napa
Country: California
Year: 2010
Price: $5.95

Winery Review: Intensely flavored and balanced with layers of vanilla, butter and pear, followed by apple, banana and oak.

My review:  This wine did not have the golden color that is typical for good chardonnay's instead this wine was green.  The smell was fruity with sugar, apple and pear smells.  The taste was very much overpowered by the oak.  There were butter and banana tastes and a hint apple.  This wine was O.K.

Tasting Zonin Pinot Grigio

Name: Zonin
Variety: Pinot Grigio
Region:
Country: Italy
Year: 2009
Price: $5.95

Winery Review: Pale straw-yellow color with brilliant reflections.  Delicately fruity bouquet, with outstanding finesse and marked hints of almond blossom and peaches. Elegant, soft and well structured fruit on the palate, with remarkable freshness and a clean, persistent aftertaste.

My review:  This wine had a pale gold color.  The smell was very plant like and earthy.  The taste was sweet and fruity.  The texture was smooth and there was a nice after taste.  The wine was my favority out of all of the ones I so I purchased it!
